Once we arrived at Barcelona’s Harbour, a friend was waiting for us. Cris would have hosted us during our stay in Catalunya. Cris’ home was in a small town near Girona, that’s why Barcelona would have been waiting for us in the meantime.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I met Cris and her family during their trip to Italy, in other words, I have been their guide for few days. I still remember the long walk up to the crater of the sleeping Vesuvius. A walk started from the square of Herculaneum at an altitude of 1000 m. From there, a path with splendid views including Monte Somma and the Gulf of Naples with its islands.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n

WHAT TO SEE IN GIRONA <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Girona is a city with a medieval charm that rises on the Onyar river banks. This town encloses all the beauty of the past in its historic center. The walls (Barri Vell), which are walkable, give a double view between the present face and ancient ones. Therefore, if you like panoramic photos, this is the point of the city for you \ud83d\ude09<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Near the walls there are the Arab baths, a historical complex dating back to 1194, which were partly destroyed during the siege of the troops of the French king Philip III (The Bold) and then rebuilt in 1294 at the request of King James II.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\"\"<\/figure>\n\n\n\n

Another marvel of Girona is the bridge built by Gustav Eiffel, called Pont de les Peixateries Velles (or also Eiffel Bridge). Yes, it is the same one who will later design and build the Eiffel Tower in Paris. I was also surprised at that time of the discovery \ud83d\ude31\ud83d\ude02
From the bridge, it is possible to admire the colorful houses overlooking the Onyar river. In the distance, you can also see the Cathedral and the bell tower of the Sant Feliu church.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The cathedral of Santa Maria completed in the 17th century, presents a Romanesque cloister, while the rest of the building has finished in a Gothic style. The internal nave is only second in Europe, in size, to that of St. Peter’s in the Vatican. To visit the interior beauty of this cathedral, however, you have to climb a staircase of over 100 steps. For the lazy, it will be a physical effort, but once inside your pupils will be rewarded \ud83d\ude1c. It is precisely on this staircase that some scenes of the Games of Throne will then be shot (in 2015 season 6).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

INTERESTING THINGS TO KNOW ABOUT <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Walking through the streets of Girona and the Jewish quarter, you come across other locations from the famous HBO television series. Do you remember when Arya Stark reaches the city of Braavos? Yes, Girona is none other than the famous town of the kingdom of Westeros. And if you didn’t watch this series…shame on you \ud83d\ude1c<\/p>\n\n\n\n

That\u2019s why I went back there, apart from the reunion, also to take some pictures of the locations. Most important I went in May because usually there is a Flower Festival (Temps de flors), where the city will be dressed with flowers and spectacular floral dispays, an event that I would recommend to you.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
